We encourage supporting organizations with minimal overhead costs, efficient operations, transparency in spending, and local expertise. There are many such organizations; here are a few that we recommend.

General Humanitarian and Multifaceted Aid

Rescue Now

Rescue Now is an international foundation founded by Ukrainians in the early days of the Russian invasion. They have saved more than 400,000 people during the war in Ukraine through evacuations, humanitarian aid, and helping volunteers become more effective. Sunflower of Peace

Sunflower of Peace Foundation is a Boston-based non-profit organization whose mission is to support the people of Ukraine affected by the russian invasion. Their efforts center around collecting medical supplies, procuring generators for those in need, and providing humanitarian aid and financial assistance to nonprofit organizations in Ukraine. Helping to Leave

Helping to Leave is a 24/7 evacuation helpline launched on February 24th – the day russia invaded Ukraine. They work to support refugees through every step of evacuation, from covering travel expenses to connecting people with volunteers on the ground to providing counseling. forPeace

forPEACE’s Ukraine Relief Project focuses on precise assistance for localized projects, providing the essential link between international financial support and the expertise of on-the-ground Ukrainian networks. Programs include supporting field hospitals, training doctors in trauma surgery, and supplying frontline paramedics. Razom for Ukraine

Razom was founded after the Revolution of Dignity, or Maidan, in 2014. Their mission is to help accelerate their individual and collective contributions through projects that unlock Ukraine’s potential and build toward a more prosperous, democratic nation. They provide critical humanitarian war relief and recovery depending on the most urgent needs, delivering tactical medicine items, hospital supplies, and technology through trusted shipping partners. Sweetanok

Sweetanok is focused on rebuilding Ukraine through urban planning and working with architectural firms to developing modular housing. They aim to restore and evolve small Ukrainian communities into thriving European towns. Brave Action Ukraine

Brave Action Ukraine is a nonprofit that promotes projects supporting ordinary people in Ukraine. Projects include, but are not limited to transporting military supplies, vehicles, and medical support, organizing concerts to raise funds for the Ukrainian army, and providing art therapy for women whose husbands died in the war. Every week they hold fundraisers to collect money for their four ongoing projects, in addition to supporting Ukrainian artists, performers, writers, and filmmakers. Donate to Brave Action Ukraine

Help People

Help People is a humanitarian institution that works to mitigate crises around the world. They evacuate civilians from temporarily occupied regions and maintain a logistics center that includes a service station, a warehouse and a hostel. Currently they are fundraising in order to repair their existing vehicle fleet, as well as working to purchase a new evacuation bus. Donate to Help People

Cleveland Maidan

Cleveland Maidan was founded in January 2014 in Cleveland, Ohio, in order to send aid to Kyiv after the Euromaidan Revolution. After the 2014 invasion, they began sending medical supplies and equipment to Ukrainian hospitals who were not prepared for the war. After February 2022, Cleveland Maidan increased its funding efforts, using its network thoughout Ukraine and Poland to ensure that aid is delivered quickly and effectively. To date, they have delivered over 155 tons of medical aid and donated over $475,000 to nonprofit organizations in Ukraine. Their current projects include providing search and rescue equipment, transport vehicles, and prosthetics for Ukrainians, as well as delivering refugee support. Donate to Cleveland Maidan

Serhiy Prytula Charity Foundation

This Foundation is focused on strengthening the Defense Forces of Ukraine and assisting civilians affected by russian aggression. They directly communicate with commanders of military units to determine their specific needs, help deliver the goods, and process the feedback received on their aid. RememberUs

Established in 2013 to educate people about the consequencs of genocide in Ukraine, RememberUs pivoted to focus on humanitarian aid when russia launched its full-scale offensive in February 2022. Their aid is targeted towards Ukrainians who remain in areas of active war, as well as vulnerable populations: people in extreme poverty, families with disabled children, and elderly people. Their projects include sending humanitarian aid packages, winter clothing, and hygienic supplies, as well as raising awareness and organizing fundraisers outside of Ukraine. Donate to RememberUs 

Superhumans Center

The Superhumans Center is a state-of-the-art rehabilitation center in Lviv, Ukraine, which provides adults and children injured in the war with prosthetics as well as psychological support and rehabilitation. Donate to Superhumans Center

SOK Foundation (Poland)

The Samodzielność od Kuchni (SOK) Foundation helps displaced Ukrainian children in Poland gain a sense of security and develop life skills, address the effects of war trauma, and integrate into life in Poland. Through classes teaching Polish as a second language, communication skills, and emotional management techniques, SOK directly helps children, while through trainings and online platforms they help educators refine their teaching skills. World Central Kitchen 

WCK provides meals in response to humanitarian, climate, and community crises. They build resilient food systems with locally led solutions. Their initiative #ChefsForUkraine is providing nearly 300,000 daily meals to people across Ukraine while continuing to expand their relief efforts in the country. Donate to World Central Kitchen

Military Support

Come Back Alive 

Launched in 2014, Come Back Alive is Ukraine’s largest charitable organization providing support to the Ukrainian Defence Forces. Currently, they are focused on providing the Territorial Defense Forces of Ukraine with air defense communications, drones, heavy machine guns, and automatic grenade launchers. Come Back Alive is fully transparent and offers open financial reporting on their website. Donate to Come Back Alive

Ukrainian Armed Forces (National Bank of Ukraine)

The National Bank of Ukraine opened a special fundraising account to support the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The account was opened after the Ukrainian government imposed martial law throughout Ukraine in response to armed aggression by russia and the threat to Ukraine’s independence and territorial integrity. The account is currently accepting donations from multiple currencies, including U.S. dollars, euros and British pounds. As of September 2023, over 760 Ukrainian hryvnias have been received. The Victory Team

The Victory Team consists of former US combat veterans who are fighting against russia’s invasion of Ukraine. They are working to provide Ukraine with drones, data and communications equipment, vehicles, body armor, uniforms, and other equipment. All of the organizers are army veterans who have actively fought with the Ukrainian Army. Donate to The Victory Team

Dzyga’s Paw

Dzyga’s Paw is a Ukrainian charity works directly with the Ukrainian army and supplies them with high-tech equipment. They use donations to purchase drones, radios, GoPro cameras, Starlinks, and military uniforms. They are fully transparent and track all funds received and spent on their website. The foundation is named after the founder’s dog, and Dzyga frequently poses for pictures with the military supplies before they are sent to their destination. Donate to Dzyga’s Paw

Support Ukraine NOW

Support Ukraine NOW tries to engage a network of Ukrainian and international activists to provide the most effective and immediate help to Ukraine. Someone Prays for You

“Someone Prays for You” is a collaborative photo series begun by Ukrainian-Canadian artist Taras Polataiko, which showcases the works of elderly Ukrainians from the city of Chernivtsi. Elderly Ukrainians volunteer their art (embroideries, ceramics) to be photographed as part of a fundraiser for civilian defenders on the front lines. Proceeds of the prints benefit the civilian defenders (for medical supplies, body armor, night vision equipment, etc.) as well as the elderly artists who volunteered their works. Children

Save Ukraine

Save Ukraine is the only public organization in Ukraine that regularly organizes and successfully conducts Rescue Missions to return Ukrainian children who had been deported to russia. It also assists survivors in documenting the children’s cases and helping children and families recover their psychological and physical health. Donate to Save Ukraine

Futurevia

Futurevia is a non-profit devoted to helping Ukrainian children affected by the war by providing secure lodging, access to food, and educational materials to Ukrainians. They are currently focusing on rebuilding schools in Chernihiv, a town heavily bombarded in the beginning of the war. Donate to Futurevia

Friends of Krytyka – Ukrainian Cultural Rescue Fund

Ukrainian Cultural Rescue Fund for Krytyka envisions a goal of $300,000 to support the work of uprooted Ukrainian scholars and experts in the humanities now, and to help in reconstructing the humanities in Ukraine in the immediate postwar period. Donate to Friends of Krytyka

Shevchenko Emergency Fund

This fund supports scholars, writers, and artists who have been affected by russia’s war against Ukraine through residential and non-residential fellowships. Scholars are given stipends ranging from $500 to $2,000 in order to continue preserving Ukraine’s intellectual and cultural potential. Donate to Shevchenko Emergency Fund

War Crimes Accountability

Center for Civil Liberties

The CCL advocates for human rights, democracy, and solidarity in Ukraine and the OSCE region. It investigates war crimes committed by russian troops in Ukraine with the goal of justice for all victims. The organization won the 2022 Nobel Peace Prize along with two other organizations. Current initiatives include “Tribunal for Putin,” which concentrates on documenting war crimes, and “Prisoner’s Voice,” which focuses on liberating those taken prisoner by russia. Support Ukrainian Media

Donate to The Kyiv Independent to keep the curtains up for the independent Ukrainian English-language journalism: PatreonGoFundMe

Independent Ukrainian Media Outlets Run by a consortium of The Fix, Are We Europe, Jnomics and the Media Development Foundation, as well as multiple media partners from across Europe. They are working with a growing list of Ukrainian media, including Ukrainska PravdaZaboronaDetector Media and others. Support is allocated based on urgency of needs in the first place, then distributed proportionally. 

Internews supports independent media in Ukraine. During the war, they have:

  • Assisted 414 regional and national media outlets (some in temporarily occupied territories) to produce vital reporting
  • Assisted 74 media-sector civil society organizations that serve to strengthen the independent media or journalists
  • Offered training on war reporting, ethical standards, solutions journalism, physical safety, tactical first aid, digital hygiene, and cybersecurity to 1,987 journalists across Ukraine
  • Supported the monitoring of violations of journalists’ rights and the provision of legal assistance for 1,106 journalists
  • Contributed to the adoption of 4 public policies, including a new Law on Media and Law on Advertising
  • Assisted 292 schools across Ukraine in adopting a media literacy curriculum
  • Revised over 30 existing support projects for media production and processed around 20 emergency funds for struggling local newsrooms, including in occupied territories
